About Lhosar

Three Lhosar new year festivals are celebrated in Nepal: Tamu Lhosar of the Gurung community on Poush 15, Sonam Lhosar of the Tamang, Hyolmo and other communities on the first day of the bright fortnight of Magh, and Gyalpo Lhosar of the Sherpa and other Himalayan communities on the first day of the bright fortnight of Falgun.

People dress in traditional clothes, visit monasteries, hold cultural programmes and meet family. All three are public holidays.
